The study of proper names, presented in the style of mass communication, realizes the identification of both general trends in the development of the national literary language, and specific, inherent in mass media speech. The specifics of connotative apronyms in the modern Ukrainian media space are analyzed in the work, their characteristic features, peculiarities of creation and using are determined on concrete samples. The urgency of the work is determined, on the one hand, by the need for systematic analysis of modern media broadcasting, on the other – the need to supplement and clarify theoretical information about conotonymy as a universal phenomenon. Connotation as a process of acquiring new meanings by proper names is a phenomenon that is especially common among anthroponyms, especially personal names and poetonyms. According to the mechanism of connotative meaning formation, motivated and unmotivated proper names are distinguished, which are formed on the basis of metaphor, metonymy and paraphrase. The conclusion about the usual character and considerable prevalence of interlingual conotonyms in modern Ukrainian media texts is made. The main feature of connotative toponyms is their ability to intensify the meaning, to wit to emphasize a specific sema from the general meaning of the proper name.
