PECULIARITIES OF SLANG FUNCTIONING IN BRITISH FILM TEXTS

Abstract

The article analyzes the specifics of the heroes’ speech of the first, second and third seasons, taking into account the English-Ukrainian translation of slang units with the help of continuous sampling method. It is defined such basic translation strategies, which used for Ukrainian dubbing: analogues, transcoding, generalization, modulation, integral modification, antonymous translation, explication, omission, permutations, and substitutions. In the study, the replicas of the characters in the original language were compared with the official Ukrainian dubbed translation of the serials during the analysis of slang translation ways. The most productive ways of creating slang units on the material of the serial "Sherlock" are metaphorization, morphological, semantic and phonological. The article contains appendixes that quantify the frequency of slang units. The prospect of further research is seen in the detailed study of lexical and phraseological slang markers in British film texts.
